Blackpool golf courses – first choice at tee time.
Blackpool golf courses offer as varied a test as you’ll find anywhere in the country – and there’s something for everyone, whether you’re the most novice of hackers or David Duval, winner of the 2001 Open Championship at Royal Lytham. And with the number of Blackpool golf courses and driving ranges in double figures you’re never more than a hefty slug with a 3 Wood away from a fairway.
Not all the courses are within the borough boundary but you really don’t have to travel far to enjoy the very best in golf. If you’re looking for a good municipal course then Stanley Park in the heart of Blackpool should suit you nicely.
If your game rests at the other end of the spectrum then why not pit yourself against that most magnificent of championship links courses: Royal Lytham and St Annes?
And if you’re after something which nestles in between the two there are a host of challenging courses to test yourself against – see below.
Blackpool golf courses – the Poldhu Hotel insider’s guide:
- Courses (and driving ranges) are dotted across Blackpool and the Fylde coast, from Knott End Golf Club (across the Wyre estuary from Fleetwood) in the north to the Lucky Strike Driving Range on the Preston Road out of Lytham in the south.
- The nearest course to our Blackpool hotel is Blackpool North Shore Golf Club, a private links course designed in 1920. It’s just 5 minutes away by car. Visitors should use the following link to find out more: www.blackpoolnorthshoregolfclub.com
- You’ll find the municipal course at Stanley Park in Blackpool. Bookings can be made up to a week in advance. The car park is off North Park Drive – use FY3 8LS in your sat-nav. Our Blackpool family hotel is just a 15 minute drive away. For more see: www.blackpool.gov.uk/Services/S-Z/StanleyParkGolfCourse
- Permitted handicaps at Royal Lytham are 21 (men and boys) and 30 (ladies and girls). Juniors must be accompanied by an adult. For more please use the attached link: www.royallytham.org/2006/home.htm
- St Annes Old Links Golf Club is a championship course in its own right, and comes highly recommended by the likes of the mighty Peter Alliss. It’s a little less stringent about who can play than Royal Lytham and is a fine alternative if your handicap isn’t quite at Royal Lytham standards. Say it quietly, but many consider it the finer course.
You’ll find more info at www.stannesoldlinks.com/index.asp
- The Ricoh Women’s Open takes place this year at Royal Lytham (30 July – 2 August).
- The Open is back at Royal Lytham! 19 – 22 July 2012.
