World Fireworks Championships: it’s Blackpool - but with even more bang!

You’d think that with Blackpool Illuminations in full swing you really wouldn’t need another reason to visit the town during September. But it seems that one world-beating free Blackpool show just isn’t enough. So how about two?

Spend a weekend at our family hotel in Blackpool this September and you’ll not only be able to enjoy Blackpool Illuminations; you’ll also be able to marvel at the World Fireworks Championships too!

Each year teams from around the globe bring their own explosive expertise to the North Pier and compete to win the coveted World Fireworks Championship crown.

Last year’s winners were China – well they did invent fireworks after all. To take top spot this year entrants will have to demonstrate cutting-edge firework design, and set their displays to music. The displays must represent the styles or traditions of their country and they must use fireworks particular to their homeland.

And whilst the teams do all the hard work, you’ll get to enjoy some of the greatest firework displays you’ll ever see!

World Fireworks Championships – the Poldhu Hotel insider’s guide:

  • The Championships begin again on Sunday 6 September and will then take place every Friday between 11 September and 2 October.
  • Best place to view? Stand on the promenade opposite Blackpool Tower and look towards North Pier.
  • The fireworks won’t start until it’s completely dark – so the published start time of 8.30pm is only a very rough estimate. Towards the beginning of September it’s likely to start nearer 9.00pm.
  • Be aware that each World Fireworks Championships event runs subject to adverse weather.
  • If you’re setting off from our Blackpool Promenade hotel in the evening to watch the World Fireworks Championships you’ll find trams passing every 20 minutes. Our local tram stop is just a two minute walk away from the Poldhu Hotel. Journey time will be around 10 minutes.
  • Nearest tram stops: Blackpool Tower or North Pier.
  • Nearest Car Parks: Central or Queen Street.

See it live
